Window City Contributes to the Preservation Effort of Printworks Mill

Commercial window supplier, Window City, gives new light to an abandoned textile mill while preserving the building’s historical charm.

Greensboro, NC – 1 May 2021 – Nationwide commercial window supplier and installer, Window City, was called on to be part of a $54 million rehabilitation project at Printworks Mill in Greensboro, NC. One of the few remaining sizeable buildings in Greensboro, this historic mill is filled with American history dating back to 1913. The mill was completely renovated from a dusty, empty textile factory to a five star, state-of-the-art, rustic apartment condominium with a variety of different shops and restaurants for tenant entertainment.

The adaptive reuse of this building required extreme attentiveness. Window City’s crew carefully installed more than 550 massive steel replica windows weighing over 500 pounds each throughout the 470,000 square-foot building.  Window City worked with window manufacturers, Trimline Window & Door along with Graham Architectural Products to deliver custom made windows for installation.  Wood windows built with heavy commercial arched sashes were provided by Trimline Window & Door.  Window manufacturer, Graham Architectural Products, fabricated custom steel replica, project out and fixed windows to maintain the building’s historical, industrious charm and compliment the interior and exterior momentous features. The enormous windows serve as a staple to the building’s exterior appeal.  All windows are energy efficient and enhance the building’s entire facelift.

Window City President, Michael Mastroberti, stated,

“We are extremely proud to have been a part of this rehab project. The idea of converting abandoned 100+ year-old buildings into homes for new communities while maintaining our nation’s historical landmarks is something Window City loves to be a part of.”

With the demand for more housing and commercial property increasing at a rapid rate, many historical properties across the country are at risk of demolition to make room for these new buildings. Fortunately, the National Register of Historic Places works to preserve certain properties in an effort to maintain our nation’s history. Printworks Mill is one of many textile mills listed on the registry.
