Window City furnished and installed 35 new energy-efficient vinyl replacement windows for this Teaneck, New Jersey two-family home. The Teaneck window replacement project included twin double hung windows for the bedrooms, a picture window set-up with flanking double hungs in the living rooms, crank-out casement windows for the kitchens, and hopper windows for the basement. Under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009, each of these various window units of this Teaneck window replacement project were eligible for a $1,500 federal tax credit. The credit was claimed on the homeowner’s income tax return for 2009 and is still available to eligible taxpayers who purchase and install energy efficient replacement windows in 2010 for their principal residence. The credit is 30% of the cost of the windows (not including installation) and is limited to a maximum amount of $1500. The tax credit is not refundable but it reduces the amount of 2010 income taxes which the homeowner would otherwise have to pay.
